Sadly remembering Cecil

Such sadness to hear that the beautiful lion Cecil was killed. I wrote a few words this morning to remember him….

I never met you Cecil

But even so I grieve

That you became someone’s trophy

So staggering to believe.

You were much loved from a distance

Respected across your land

So cruelly taken from us

By a human’s evil hand.

What legacy you leave us?

What lesson must we learn?

To turn minds away from violence

And hearts to wildlife concern.

We must remember you were BORN FREE

God’s creature made to roam

Amongst soulful wilds of Africa

Your ever loving home.

I dedicate these words to the amazing dedication and work of Will Travers and all at The Born Free Foundation
